What does this mean?

There are many reasons for "abnormal" Pap test results. If results of the Pap test are unclear or show a small change in the cells of the cervix, your doctor will probably repeat the Pap test.

Common Causes for Abnormal Pap Results

The main cause of "abnormal" Pap test results is infection with HPV (Human papillomavirus). There are many types of HPV. Some types have been linked to cancer of the cervix, vulva and vagina. Other types have been linked to genital warts.
